PANIC – Self Titled LP (1983)

Potent power pop rock and new wave synth rhythms flow from this early 80’s vinyl obscurity. Although the album stands on its own as a pleasantly consistent affair, the standout tracks are the contagious “When You Dance” and “Talk Of The Town”…The band consisted of five members and played in the mid Atlantic East Coast region...I’ve included a video of the band performing a song called “The Saddest Words”, which came from a later album and is excellent…Out of print private pressing via 5th Wheel Records...

SIDE ONE
It’s your life
When you dance
She’s got me
It’s my emotions

SIDE TWO
Talk of the town
No one said it would be easy
I need you
What do you want

BRAVE NEW WORLD – The Law Of Series EP (1983)

Brave New World was an American based independent outfit consisting of four members who produced this lone six song electronic wave extended player. The group took clear cues from the short lived new romantic movement with their stylistic edgy version of synth wave. The title song kicks things off with its sleek synth dance melodies and echo-laden guitar riffs. Other standouts include “Savage” and the techno dance club feast of “Transistor”… This is quite a romp thru hyper kinetic electronica dance inspired songs. BNW is ear candy for new wave synth enthusiasts that crave something different from the mainstream acts of the time…. Out of print private pressing via World Records…

THE LOST TROPICS – Self Titled LP (1983)

Here’s a not so rare album from a New York City crew. I’ve had this in the collection for many years, but recently picked up a sealed copy, so I thought I would post it after not hearing it for a decade or more...Even know it’s not a private pressing, it is out of print and seems to lean on the more obscure side of things. It starts off well with an infectious female synth wave tune “Zoo Story” coupled with snippets of animal sound effects... The album continues down a similar path throughout the rambling ten songs, taking turns with vocal treatments and steering in power pop rock territory with quirky jabs and crunchy guitars towards the end of the second act.

This is a solid outing by what I’m sure was a fleeting moment in time for this forgotten fivesome. This looks to be the group’s one and only effort… As mentioned, this is not a scarce record, so there should be a wide array available for modest prices. Recommended listening for a non mainstream slice of vinyl. Out of print...

SIDE 1

Too much to handle

TOKYO SCIENCE – Self Titled EP (1986)

DIY new wave pop melodies of the day, pompy synth stabs and AOR sensibilities are featured on this lone obscure release. Tokyo Science was a five member outfit operating in Ventura, CA…There doesn’t seem to be a grain of information on this one, so if anyone has something…please indulge us…Out of print private pressing via Tokyo Science Records…

A.S. ANOVA – Motivation Termination Dance LP (1989)

A.S. Anova was a female led 80’s synth wave group based out of Denver, Colorado. Information on the band seems to be nonexistent. Their music on the other hand sounds more rooted in the early 80's new wave scenes, with its chirpiness of synths, relentless guitar work and a Dale Bozzio voice clone at times. Listen to the songs “Glitterboy” and “You Pulled The Plug” and you would think you were listening to a Missing Person’s album. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. Motivation Termination Dance turns out to be quite the catchy release for this independent and unknown obscurity…Out of print private pressing via Electrolyte Records…

SIDE 1

SIDE 2

OR ROY COMBO – Or Roy Phono EP (1985)

Here’s a recent acquisition from a local record store crate digging encounter…Or Roy Combo sport a free spirit campy attitude on this little obscurity. The band look to have been from the New York area and were composed of a whopping eight members. Or Roy Combo’s lone release is a pop culture funked up explosion riding a new wave aesthetic. The band’s signature sound has an early 80’s B-52s influence. Not too tough to track down and if you’re lucky you get a nifty little band sticker, which is scanned below. …Out of print private pressing via Fake Doom Records…

CLANCY CARROLL – Honesty EP (1984)

Here’s an earlier obscure solo release by the talented and most prolific musician Clancy Carroll. Clancy started playing music in the mid-late 70’s and was in a variety of indie bands that played punk alternative music. He eventually formed his own band and handled vocal, guitar and drum programming duties…You can find much more info on Clancy and his musical adventures HERE

As for this release, you’ll hear clean and crisp alternative new wave oriented melodies…I’ve had this in the collection for some time, but just picked up a sealed copy so I decided to post it…Out of print private pressing via New Deal Records…
